During the 78th World Health Assembly, five prestigious awards were presented by the World Health Organization (WHO) to individuals and organizations contributing significantly to global health.

Among the recipients was Wang Huali, chief physician at Peking University's No. 6 Hospital, who received the 'His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Prize for the Promotion of Healthy Aging.' This recognition marks a historic milestone, as Wang is the first Chinese expert in the realm of mental health to be honored with this award.

In her acceptance address, Wang highlighted China's commitment to enhancing healthy aging initiatives.

She acknowledged the support she received from the National Health Commission, which enabled her participation in implementing the national action plan aimed at addressing dementia among the elderly.

Wang emphasized that the award not only symbolizes personal recognition but also serves as validation of the collective efforts of professionals engaged in dementia prevention and care both in China and globally.

Continuing her advocacy, she expressed her determination to collaborate with colleagues in promoting active aging, enhancing dementia care and prevention strategies, and improving the mental health of older populations.

Wang elaborated on the significant global challenge posed by population aging, noting the rising prominence of healthy aging within the healthcare sector.

She underscored the necessity of international cooperation to propel advancements in this field.

Peking University Sixth Hospital has a longstanding reputation as a WHO Collaborating Center.

Wang voiced her ambitions for strengthening partnerships with the WHO to elevate China's contributions and share its successes internationally.

According to WHO data, Wang's impact on healthy aging has been substantial on both national and global stages.

She played a key role in the formulation of China's '14th Five-Year Plan for Healthy Aging' and has contributed to the 'National Action Plan to Address Dementia in Old Age (2024-2030).' In conjunction with the WHO, she co-authored global guidelines for dementia care and designed the iSupport online course for healthcare professionals.

Wang has established a comprehensive management framework for dementia care, developing care guidelines and technical plans that have been adopted across 19 provinces in China.

She pioneered a community-based interdisciplinary service model that merges professional and family support, now utilized by 150 teams across 27 regions.

Since 2006, she has promoted cognitive stimulation therapy in over 20 provinces, enhancing rehabilitation for dementia patients and their families.
