Jiangsu Province and ASEAN Strengthen Educational Cooperation

The Jiangsu-ASEAN Education Cooperation Exchange Conference facilitates collaboration and mutual development in education.
PHNOM PENH, May 24, 2025 — The Jiangsu-ASEAN Education Cooperation Exchange Conference took place in Cambodia's capital on Saturday, fostering dialogue and collaboration between Jiangsu Province in China and various ASEAN nations.

Themed "Building a Shared Future for Win-Win Development," the conference attracted representatives from government entities, enterprises, and educational institutions across China and ASEAN nations.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, Hang Chuon Naron, emphasized the significance of the conference in enhancing educational cooperation between Jiangsu and ASEAN countries.

He noted that Cambodia has already seen positive outcomes from its educational exchanges with Jiangsu.

"I firmly believe that with strong commitment made by the leaders of China and ASEAN, our cooperation will continue to expand and unleash huge potential for human welfare and regional social development," he stated.

Currently, over 1,000 Cambodian students are studying in China, with approximately 40 enrolled in institutions within Jiangsu Province.

Naron affirmed Cambodia's commitment to encouraging more students to benefit from Chinese education, particularly in Jiangsu.

A representative from Jiangsu expressed that educational cooperation with ASEAN has yielded beneficial results and served as a crucial link for younger generations to connect and integrate.

"Jiangsu is willing to deepen educational cooperation with ASEAN countries, promote youth exchanges, and continue traditional friendships," the representative remarked.

Thai Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob provided a pre-recorded statement highlighting the fruitful collaboration between Thailand and Jiangsu, noting the successful implementation of numerous exchange initiatives that have enriched educational standards and supported innovation and industrial growth.

Stella Christie, vice minister of higher education, science, and technology in Indonesia, remarked on the significance of education cooperation in a globalized context.

She praised Jiangsu's achievements in educational methodologies and vocational training, which have produced a pool of skilled individuals beneficial to Indonesia's industrial development.

At the conference, the accomplishments of Jiangsu-ASEAN educational collaboration were outlined, accompanied by the launch of the Jiangsu-ASEAN Youth Scholars Exchange Initiative.

The ASEAN member states consist of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
