Jinhua Launches Global Trade Promotion Initiative Amid Trade Challenges

East China's manufacturing hub actively seeks to bolster exports and explore new markets through international exhibitions.
HANGZHOU, March 24 -- Jinhua, a key manufacturing city in east China's Zhejiang Province, has launched its 2025 global trade promotion initiative aimed at enhancing exports as global trade faces increasing protectionism and decreasing demand in major markets.

The initiative commenced with a delegation of 55 local companies participating in the National Hardware Show held in Las Vegas, United States, from March 18 to 20. This event serves as an important platform for companies from Jinhua, which is home to approximately 2 million market entities, to engage with potential and existing customers.

Li Xing, general manager of Jinhua Bangte Electric Co., Ltd., emphasized the importance of exhibitions for customer acquisition and retention.

His company presented over ten types of hardware and electrical accessories, aiming to penetrate further into the U.S. market.

Prior to the trade show, Li undertook visits to clients in major cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York to deepen market understanding and identify potential collaborations.

The firm reports average annual exports exceeding 100 million yuan (approximately 13.93 million U.S. dollars) to the U.S. and Canada in the past three years.

Despite facing rising tariffs that have increased costs for Chinese goods, Li is actively negotiating with clients to distribute these burdens and is in the process of establishing a U.S.-based trading company to set up overseas warehouses, which would reduce logistics and warehousing expenses.

Zhejiang Seacoast Industrial Co., Ltd., another participant at the Las Vegas exhibition, received positive responses for its new range of balcony and courtyard furniture.

General manager Gao Junting pointed out that the United States remains a critical export destination for China's hardware and garden products.

He indicated plans to broaden their customer base to include major U.S. supermarket chains.

Gao noted that economic pressures in the U.S. are motivating consumers to look for high-quality yet affordable products, creating a favorable market for their offerings.

Beyond America, Seacoast Industrial is also focusing on expanding its exports to Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia, currently achieving around 15 percent of its exports, or roughly 5 million U.S. dollars annually, through online platforms such as Amazon.

The city of Jinhua is amplifying its global trade interactions.

It intends to send delegations of exporters to participate in seven additional trade exhibitions across multiple countries including Russia, Thailand, Indonesia, South Africa, Britain, Morocco, and Türkiye by 2025. These events will feature a diverse array of products, encompassing hardware tools, gardening items, kitchen and bathroom supplies, and lighting equipment.

As a testament to its increasing global trade activity, Jinhua reported a 16.4 percent rise in total exports in 2024, reaching 771.9 billion yuan.

The number of local companies engaged in international trade exceeded 17,000, marking a 10.3 percent increase from the previous year.
