China and Russia Strengthen Ties Amidst Global Tensions

China's Foreign Minister discusses the impact of US policies and the importance of multipolarity in international relations during his visit to Moscow.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during his visit to Moscow, emphasized the roles of Beijing and Moscow in promoting a multipolar world and responded firmly to the United States' trade policies.

In a discussion with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he addressed the ongoing China-US trade tensions, asserting that undue American pressure and tariffs would elicit resolute countermeasures from China.

Wang highlighted that the notion of 'America First' should not progress to an environment where the United States undermines the legitimate rights of other countries, particularly with regard to recent tariffs imposed in relation to fentanyl issues, whom he described as baseless.

Wang stated, 'If the US side really wants to solve the fentanyl issue, it should revoke the unjustified tariff levies and engage in equal consultation with China,' reinforcing China's position on mutual respect and the stability of bilateral relations.

He articulated China's commitment to navigating its relationship with the US towards a stable and sustainable future while firmly protecting its sovereignty and development interests.

In discussing the revival of Russia-US interactions, Wang noted that the initial resumption of normal contacts between the two nations is beneficial for enhancing stability in global relations, amidst fluctuating international dynamics.

He indicated that large nations must recognize their international responsibilities and contribute positively to a world characterized by unpredictability.

Addressing concerns regarding potential collusion between Russia and the US aimed at containing China, Wang dismissed such rhetoric as a simplistic view rooted in outdated Cold War mentality.

He reaffirmed the strength and resilience of the China-Russia strategic partnership, which has endured the changing tides of international affairs.

On the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, Wang described the battlefield conditions as complex while acknowledging a recent positive shift towards peace talks.

He characterized these developments as essential steps forward, albeit recognizing that numerous significant differences remain among involved parties, underscoring the complexity of reaching a peaceful resolution.

Wang reiterated China's willingness to contribute constructively to international discussions focused on resolving the crisis through dialogue and negotiation, aiming for a lasting peace acceptable to all parties.

Additionally, he stressed the historical significance of the 80th anniversary of the victory in China's war against Japanese aggression and the Great Patriotic War, underscoring the unity between China and Russia against attempts to distort the history of World War II. Wang concluded by insisting on the necessity for both countries to collaborate in defending the postwar international order and nurturing a multipolar world.
