Chinese Robotics Industry Showcases Innovations at 2025 Zhongguancun Forum

The event highlights advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence, signaling a strong growth trajectory for China’s humanoid robot market.
The 2025 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum), held from March 27 to 31, showcased a significant evolution in China's robotics industry, featuring nearly 100 robots from 15 different companies.

The forum, which operates under the theme "New Quality Productive Forces and Global Science and Technology Cooperation," demonstrated advancements in merging robotic precision with creative intelligence.

Among the exhibits were humanoid robots designed for various functions, including reception, communication, and performances.

Notably, a performative group of humanoid robots, including "T1" from Booster Robotics and "Kuavo" from Leju Robotics, entertained attendees with synchronized dance routines powered by sophisticated programming.

These presentations reflected the increasing mobility and capabilities of robots, a sentiment echoed by Aslan Tarik, the CTO of Beijing Tangta Technology Co, who noted the impressive technological strides since the previous year's forum.

Leju Robotics utilized high-precision motion capture technology to create custom programs for their robots, allowing them to execute complex movements after translating human dancer actions into robotic commands.

Additionally, the forum featured innovations in retail and catering, such as a collaborative robot coffee stand developed by Galbot and Haoyin Technology Co, where a robotic arm customizes coffee orders based on customer preferences.

This setup is part of a larger operation, with around 20 similar coffee stands distributed across cities like Beijing and Shenzhen.

Current estimates indicate that China's humanoid robot market will grow to 5.3 billion yuan ($729.7 million) by 2025, showing a doubling in size from 2024. Projections suggest it could reach 75 billion yuan by 2029, positioning China to capture a significant 32.7 percent share of the global market.

Experts at the forum, including Wang Tianmiao from Beihang University, highlighted the rapidly evolving ecosystem in China's humanoid robotics, emphasizing the supportive governmental policies and technological advancements that are fostering growth and innovation within the sector.

The forum also recognized significant achievements in robotics, including the integration of embodied robots using large language models in retail and the introduction of the first open-source general humanoid robot platform, "Tien Kung," which were celebrated as major milestones in China's scientific and technological advancement.

Additionally, government initiatives, as outlined in the 2025 Government Work Report, underscore a commitment to developing new-generation intelligent terminals, smart manufacturing, and AI products, including intelligent robots and connected vehicles.

An action plan issued in February 2025 aims to accelerate AI technology and robotics industry progress from 2025 to 2027.

Amid the national advancements, international collaboration is also becoming more prominent.

Paolo Dario, chief scientist at the Italian National Competence Center for Robotics ARTES 4.0, acknowledged the global advancements in robotics and expressed optimism for increased cooperation between Europe and China.

Tarik from Beijing Tangta Technology noted the benefits of China's robust technology ecosystem, which has been instrumental in enhancing research and development in the robotics field.
