Mainland China Responds Firmly to Taiwan's 'Independence' Activities

Recent measures include issuing wanted notices for cyberattack suspects and sanctions against Taiwan-linked businesses.
BEIJING, June 5 -- A spokesperson for the Chinese mainland has denounced remarks made by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regarding the mainland's social system, labeling the statements as defamatory.

Zhu Fenglian, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, criticized the DPP for allegedly instigating cross-Strait confrontations and misguiding international public opinion.

Zhu stated that the actions of Lai and the DPP violate democratic principles, claiming they cloak their activities in the guise of democracy while promoting separatism.

In a coordinated effort against perceived threats to national unity, the Guangzhou police issued a wanted notice on Thursday for 20 suspects believed to be involved in cyberattacks organized by Taiwan's Information, Communications and Electronic Force Command (ICEFCOM).

The Guangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau stated that the police have offered a reward of 10,000 yuan (approximately 1,390 U.S. dollars) for information leading to the arrest of each suspect.

The cyber operations conducted by ICEFCOM, reportedly established with support from the U.S. military, aim to infiltrate key infrastructure in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, targeting sectors such as defense, energy, and transportation.

Investigations suggest that these attacks have involved thousands of attempts to breach secure systems, causing significant disruptions to normal operations in both governmental and private sectors.

Concurrently, mainland authorities have sanctioned a Taiwan-based company, Sicuens International Co., Ltd., associated with Shen Pao-yang, a prominent advocate for Taiwan's independence.

The company has been banned from engaging in business transactions with entities in the mainland.

Zhu condemned any economic pursuits by entities associated with staunch separatists, emphasizing that the mainland will not permit them to profit through cooperation with mainland businesses.

Zhu indicated that past penalties against Shen and his associated organization, the Kuma Academy, reflect a long-term strategy to counteract actions promoting separatist ideologies among Taiwan's youth.

As the cyberattacks continue to raise concerns, a joint report by several cybersecurity entities, including the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, has detailed the activities and structure of the ICEFCOM, outlining their role in cyber warfare aimed at destabilizing mainland societal structures.

The report indicates a history of cooperation between the ICEFCOM and anti-China forces in the United States, asserting that their operations have contributed to the escalation of tensions in cross-Strait relations.

Zhu stated that the crackdown on cybercriminal activities linked to Taiwan's independence agenda marks a notable escalation in law enforcement actions targeting separatist elements.

Authorities have expressed their commitment to taking decisive measures against individuals involved in such activities, in alignment with the mainland's broader national security policies.

These developments occur amidst rising tensions across the Taiwan Strait, with the mainland asserting its sovereignty and enhancing measures to safeguard national unity.

The ongoing response to actions perceived as promoting separatism seems poised to remain a focal point of security and diplomatic efforts in the region.
