Xu Xin's Game-Winner Propels Guangdong Southern Tigers to Sixth Consecutive Victory

A thrilling finish as Guangdong outmaneuvers Beikong Royal Fighters in a closely contested CBA matchup.
In a nail-biting showdown, the Guangdong Southern Tigers edged past the Beikong Royal Fighters with a final score of 99-98, securing their sixth consecutive win in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).

The game, held at Dongguan, Guangdong Province on January 12, 2025, showcased the Southern Tigers' resilience and Xu Xin's decisive performance.

The Beikong Royal Fighters took an early lead with an 8-2 scoreline, but Guangdong quickly regrouped.

Xu Jie, a pivotal playmaker for Guangdong, along with Eric Moreland's effective finishing, helped tilt the balance by the end of the first quarter, with Guangdong taking a slender 25-24 lead.

As the second quarter unfolded, the Southern Tigers capitalized on their strategic offensive plays.

Ren Junfei's precision from beyond the arc and Darius Bazley's aggressive drives to the basket posed significant challenges to the Beikong defense.

A crucial moment came with Xu Jie's quick steal from Zhu Songwei, leading to a fast break capped by a powerful Bazley dunk, extending their lead to 47-32 with slightly over four minutes remaining in the quarter.

The game's momentum saw another shift in the third quarter as Beikong mounted a spirited comeback, led by Shen Zijie, Travis Trice, and Jared Sullinger.

Their efforts powered a 10-0 run that brought the visitors within a single point, 61-60. However, Guangdong remained unfazed, with Troy Gillenwater and Xu Xin contributing essential jump shots to maintain a 77-70 lead entering the final quarter.

Beikong showcased unwavering tenacity in the fourth quarter, spearheaded by Shen Zijie's continued offensive onslaught and Trice's crucial three-pointers.

With Trice's second three-pointer leveling the scores at 97-97, the tension was palpable as the game entered its final moments.

Despite Shen and Zhang Fan's missed free throws, which left Beikong clinging to a slender 98-97 lead with just 7.1 seconds on the clock, Guangdong executed a remarkable play.

Ren Junfei's lob was skillfully tipped by Gillenwater into Xu Xin's hands, who calmly converted the game-winning floater.

With this victory, Guangdong underscores its formidable presence in the CBA, while handing Beikong their second consecutive loss.

The triumph further cements the Southern Tigers' impact in Chinese basketball, showcasing teamwork and strategic brilliance.
