BEIJING, June 13 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the importance of hard work and dedication as he addressed a gathering at the Great Hall of the People to mark the 120th birth anniversary of Chen Yun, a prominent figure in China's socialist development.

During his speech, Xi highlighted Chen as a significant contributor to the revolutionary cause and a key architect of the socialist economy in China.

He noted that Chen was integral to both the first and second generations of the CPC leadership, working alongside pivotal figures such as Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

Xi called on Party members to emulate Chen's ideals and to maintain their commitment to the Party’s objectives, urging them to navigate the complexities of contemporary challenges with fortitude and determination.

He reiterated the importance of enhancing the Party's capacity for leading economic and social development, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to reform and a strong commitment to opening up to higher international standards.

The CPC leader praised Chen’s commitment to evidence-based decision-making, urging members to adopt a scientific approach in their work.

He stressed the necessity for comprehensive assessments and research to ensure that decisions align with the needs and expectations of the populace.

In conjunction with the anniversary, a revised three-volume collection of Chen’s works has been published, expanding on the original edition from 2005. This new edition includes 401 writings spanning from 1935 to 1986 and features 15 previously unpublished documents.

Chen was born in 1905, joined the CPC in 1925, and passed away in 1995 at the age of 90. His leadership and contributions have been celebrated as foundational to China's socialist development.

In related events, President Xi Jinping announced his upcoming attendance at the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana from June 16 to 18, where he is expected to engage with leaders from Central Asian nations to discuss regional cooperation and development initiatives.

Additionally, President Xi extended his condolences to British King Charles III and Indian leaders following a tragic plane crash involving an Air India flight that resulted in numerous casualties.
