Shenzhen Airport Pilots Innovative Automated Valet Parking Service

Pioneering technology trial aims to streamline parking with Huawei's latest advanced driving system.
At the bustling Shenzhen Baoan International Airport, located in the vibrant sci-tech and manufacturing hub of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province, China, an innovative technology trial is underway.

This trial seeks to revolutionize the way travelers park their vehicles at one of the city's busiest transportation nodes.

Initiated on January 13, the automated valet parking service trial is collaboratively managed by several leading enterprises, including Huawei and the Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center Co., Ltd.

The system leverages mobile technology to enhance user convenience.

Travelers can seamlessly transition their vehicles from the passenger drop-off area to designated parking spots by simply tapping on a mobile app.

This app enables drivers to select parking lots, monitor their vehicle's movements in real-time, and gather information about the car's environment and location.

Once parked, vehicles have the capability to navigate back to the passenger area autonomously, expertly avoiding pedestrians and yielding to other vehicles en route.

Currently, this trial is accessible only to vehicles fitted with Huawei's sophisticated advanced driving systems.

According to Jin Yuzhi, the CEO of Huawei's Intelligent Automotive Solution business unit, the selection of the airport as the test site was strategic.

Airports are high-frequency destinations for countless drivers, making them ideal for testing such automated solutions.

The ability to save time in the parking process is a significant advantage for travelers rushing to catch flights, said Jin.

Moreover, the dynamic and complex environment of an airport, characterized by a high volume of both people and vehicles, necessitates meticulous vehicular control.

This scenario provides invaluable insights for further technological development.

Lin Tao, president of Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center Co., Ltd., views this airport trial as a potential model for broader application across diverse environments.

He envisions future expansions of this technology into other everyday scenarios such as hospitals, tourist sites, and shopping centers, where parking efficiency can significantly enhance user experience.

This initiative is yet another step in Shenzhen's ongoing quest to remain at the forefront of technological innovation and practical urban solutions.
