The China Cultural Center hosts a Lantern Festival, emphasizing cultural ties and shared values between China and Jordan.
The China Cultural Center in Amman organized a Lantern Festival celebration on February 12, 2025, marking the conclusion of the Spring Festival festivities in China.

The event featured traditional performances and cultural exchanges aimed at fostering better understanding between the two nations.

Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, Chen Chuandong, addressed attendees, stating that the Spring Festival represents China’s most significant traditional holiday.

He described the Lantern Festival as a celebration of the first full moon of the Chinese New Year, symbolizing renewal and the arrival of spring.

Ambassador Chen highlighted the traditions associated with the festival, such as moon gazing, lantern displays, riddle-solving, and the tasting of traditional sweets.

He noted that these customs reflect the rich cultural heritage of China, passed down through generations.

Moreover, Chen pointed out the shared values between China and Jordan, emphasizing commitments to peace, family respect, and cultural openness.

He referenced the historical ties dating back to the Silk Road, which fostered exchanges between the two societies.

Shi Wei, the cultural counselor at the Chinese Embassy and director of the China Cultural Center in Amman, emphasized the significance of the "Happy Spring Festival" initiative, which has served as a global platform for cultural exchange for two decades.

She stated that this year’s Lantern Festival celebration was a culmination of the 2025 Spring Festival events and underscored a message of unity through tradition.

The festivities included performances of Kung Fu, traditional folk music, dance, theatrical presentations, and a raffle draw.

The event garnered attendance from Jordanian public figures, academics, students studying the Chinese language, embassy officials, and members of the Chinese community in Jordan.

Mohannad Al-Bakri, director-general of the Royal Film Commission of Jordan, expressed that the event was an engaging introduction to Chinese culture, incorporating elements of technology, imagery, and film within the performances.

He remarked that the celebration enhanced his understanding of the Spring Festival and highlighted cultural similarities between China and Jordan.

Al-Bakri noted the interaction among Jordanian and Chinese youth as a testament to the growing cultural cooperation between the two nations.
