Father and Son Rescued After 26 Hours Adrift at Sea During Typhoon

A dramatic rescue operation unfolds as a father and son survive a harrowing experience at sea amid Typhoon Wutip.
A father and son from Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region were rescued after being swept out to sea by Typhoon Wutip in Hainan Province.

The duo endured 26 hours adrift in cold, turbulent waters before being rescued by local authorities and fishermen on Sunday.

The incident began on Friday when the pair, who were enjoying their time at the coast of Chengmai, were caught unawares by severe waves and strong winds.

A sudden large wave swept them into the ocean.

Fortunately, both were wearing life jackets, which contributed to their survival.

Typhoon Wutip, with maximum wind speeds of 30 meters per second, made landfall in Hainan's Dongfang at approximately 11:00 PM on Friday.

The storm subsequently made a second landfall in Jijia township in Zhanjiang around 12:30 AM on Saturday, intensifying ocean conditions across the region.

During the night, as the father, surnamed Zhu, and his son drifted further from the shore, Zhu was thrown into the sea by a violent wave and lost sight of his son, who managed to remain clinging to a fishing raft.

The boy, alone in the dark waters, awaited rescue through the night.

By Sunday morning, after the storm had passed, Zhu's son was discovered by individuals involved in disaster relief efforts.

Local police, upon being informed of the situation, promptly organized a rescue operation that involved fishermen and the use of boats to locate the boy.

Meanwhile, authorities initiated a two-pronged search operation to locate Zhu, who was reported missing.

One team scoured the seas while another combed the nearby coastline.

Five hours later, Zhu was found on an abandoned net cage near Jiaowei township in Zhanjiang.

He was reportedly in a state of near shock and barely conscious, prompting immediate medical attention.

Both Zhu and his son were eventually taken to the hospital, and reports indicate that they are recovering from their ordeal.

The local community expressed relief at the successful rescue and commended the efforts of the police and local fishermen in responding to the crisis.
