Chinese Vice Premier to Lead Delegation in Russia Amid Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The visit comes as Vice Premier Liu Guozhong prepares for the World Health Assembly, highlighting China's extensive diplomatic engagements.
BEIJING, May 16 -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing will visit Russia from May 19 to 22 to participate in the fifth meeting of the council of cooperation between the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Volga Federal District.

This visit includes attending the chairpersons' meeting of the China-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation and Development of Northeast China and the Far East and Baikal Region of Russia.

The trip follows an invitation from Russia's Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District, Igor Komarov, and Deputy Prime Minister and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, Yury Trutnev.

Zhang is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

In related diplomatic developments, Vice Premier Liu Guozhong is scheduled to attend the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 18 to 23. Following this engagement, Liu will visit Belarus to chair the sixth meeting of the Chinese-Belarusian Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation.

His visit is also at the invitation of World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, along with the Swiss and Belarusian governments.

On another front, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng expressed optimism regarding the role of the U.S. business community in enhancing China-U.S. bilateral relations.

Han met with Invesco Chairperson Richard Wagoner in Beijing and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nations, stating that the recent economic and trade discussions have shown substantial progress.

He mentioned that China is keen on reforming its capital market in a way that aligns with its national conditions and welcomed continued collaboration with U.S. stakeholders.

During these developments, Vice Premier He Lifeng co-chaired the 10th China-France High Level Economic and Financial Dialogue in Paris, along with French Minister Eric Lombard.

They affirmed their commitment to bolstering economic ties and collaborative efforts to tackle global challenges, particularly climate change.

The dialogue, which underscores China's focus on multilateral coordination, resulted in the signing of agreements to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture and technology.

Furthermore, at the 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting of the China-Chile Business Council held in Beijing, representatives from both nations emphasized the importance of their trading relationship, particularly in the agricultural sector.

This year marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the Free Trade Agreement between China and Chile.

Both nations highlighted the significant growth in bilateral trade, with particular focus on the successful cherry trade.

These diplomatic engagements illustrate China’s active role on the global stage, aligning economic cooperation with broader international relations and sustainable development initiatives.
