China's space station is poised to become a major player in global scientific research, with plans to conduct more than 1,000 research projects over the next 10 to 15 years.

This ambitious initiative underscores China's determination to expand its footprint in space exploration and technology, as announced by the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The space station, serving as China’s national laboratory in orbit, is set to operate stably for over a decade, offering a unique platform that integrates an expansive range of space science disciplines.

The facility's core aim is to foster international cooperation and scientific outreach, while striving for groundbreaking discoveries in critical frontier fields.

During its tenure, the Chinese space station seeks to make profound advancements in understanding and applying basic sciences and novel technologies, in alignment with national strategic interests.

This facility is particularly poised to address complex challenges through its distinctive offerings, such as sustained microgravity, cosmic radiation, and human-involved experiments, which allow for groundbreaking research in new space technologies.

Following rigorous evaluation by a substantial cohort of over 100 academicians and more than 1,000 experts, China has solidified a comprehensive research framework for its space station.

This framework encompasses 32 themes across four principal fields: space life sciences and human research, microgravity physical sciences, space astronomy, and Earth sciences, along with innovations in new space technologies and applications.

Equipped with more than 20 advanced scientific experiment cabinets and three platforms for extravehicular exposure experiments, the space station meets international standards in various scientific sectors.

These advancements include biotechnology, fluid physics, combustion science, and high-precision time-frequency experiments, among others.

Additionally, China is developing cutting-edge research facilities like the 2-meter aperture space station survey telescope (CSST), which promises international competitiveness.

So far, the space station has accomplished over 180 scientific and applied projects in orbit, facilitating the transportation of nearly two tons of scientific materials necessary for these experiments.

The station has returned close to 100 types of space science experiment samples and accumulated more than 265TB of scientific data.

Chinese scientific teams are actively engaged in extensive research spanning numerous disciplines, delving into significant scientific inquiries and yielding transformative, original findings.

This concerted research effort has produced over 500 high-caliber research papers and secured over 150 patents, with several innovations being adapted for practical application within and beyond China's borders.

These developments signify a rapid evolution of China's capabilities in space sciences and applications, showcasing the country’s growing role in the global space research community.

By promoting cross-national scientific cooperation and serving as a hub for pioneering research, the Chinese space station stands ready to enhance our understanding of space and advance technological innovation.
