China's Contributions to Global Economic Growth and Green Transition Highlighted at 2025 CDF

Leaders at the China Development Forum emphasize China's pivotal role in fostering international cooperation and sustainable practices.
During the opening address at the China Development Forum 2025 (CDF) in Beijing, Roland Busch, the president and chief executive officer of Siemens AG, emphasized China's significant role in global economic growth and its commitment to a green transition.

Busch noted that the current transformation of the world economy is influenced by various factors, and highlighted China's strategic focus on high-tech innovation, improved efficiencies, and high-quality growth as a model for addressing global challenges.

He remarked on the proactive measures taken by the Chinese government, stating, "China is even going one step further, changing the operating system of its economy to unleash new quality productive forces." Busch emphasized the importance of creating a fair business environment and a level playing field for all participants in the economy.

Furthermore, he called for companies to develop strong ecosystems supported by governmental collaboration to transform challenges into opportunities and foster shared prosperity sustainably.

In his speech, Chinese Premier Li Qiang reiterated the country’s pledge to openness and international cooperation, announcing intentions to further expand market access for foreign investors across various sectors.

The Premier's commitment to enhance consumer spending in China was also a focal point of his address, which he believes will stimulate economic growth.

Ola Kallenius, chairman of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, affirmed China’s critical position as a major global market during an interview, expressing confidence in the country's future trajectory.

He conveyed Mercedes-Benz's dedication to continued investment in China, citing it as the brand's largest market.

Kallenius highlighted plans for introducing a new vehicle architecture within the Chinese market and expanding operational activities in Fujian Province.

Stephen Orlins, president of the National Committee on U.S.–China Relations, praised the measures proposed by Premier Li, asserting that these initiatives could significantly enhance consumer spending in China and potentially lead to a balanced trade relationship between the United States and China, thereby stabilizing global growth.

Former Australian State Premier Daniel Andrews, known for his environmental reforms in Victoria, also contributed insights at the forum.

He stressed the necessity for formal cooperation between Australia and China on decarbonizing heavy industries and advancing renewable energy technologies.

Andrews recognized the need for greater global acknowledgment of China's achievements in renewable energy and criticized the U.S. for its inconsistent trade policies, advocating for a pragmatic partnership between Australia and China in pursuit of sustainability.

The overarching theme of the 2025 CDF is "Unleashing Development Momentum for Stable Growth of Global Economy," reflecting the forum's mission to address international economic cooperation and sustainable development initiatives.
