China Reigns Supreme at Asian Winter Games in Harbin

Host nation China secures multiple gold medals, demonstrating athletic prowess across various disciplines.
Chinese athletes continued to showcase their dominance at the Asian Winter Games, held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, on Wednesday.

The day's events saw remarkable performances, particularly in cross-country skiing and freestyle skiing, as China extended its medal tally.

In cross-country skiing, the women's team secured gold in the 4×5 kilometer relay in Yabuli.

The team, consisting of Li Lei, Chi Chunxue, Chen Lingshuang, and Dinigeer Yilamujiang, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and skill.

Li Lei, a former champion in the women's sprint classic, commenced the relay with a strong performance, swiftly moving to the front.

By the end of Chi Chunxue’s leg, the team had built a significant lead of 47 seconds.

Chen Lingshuang further increased the gap to one minute before handing off to Dinigeer Yilamujiang, who completed the race in a total time of 53 minutes and 59.3 seconds.

Kazakhstan finished in second place, followed by Japan in third.

The men's team also excelled in the 4×7.5 kilometer relay.

Initially trailing by over 30 seconds, the Chinese team made a remarkable comeback, featuring athletes Li Minglin, Cirenzhandui, Bao Lin, and Wang Qiang, clinching gold with a narrow finish ahead of Japan by just 3.2 seconds.

Kazakhstan again trailed in the bronze position.

In freestyle skiing, China's success continued with a clean sweep in the women's big air final.

Liu Mengting, Han Linshan, and Yang Ruyi achieved podium placements, with Liu Mengting, a co-flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony, scoring 175.50 points to secure her second individual gold medal of the Games.

This victory followed the trio's standout performance in the women's slopestyle final the previous day, where Liu also claimed the top position.

Additionally, in ski mountaineering, a newly added event at the Asian Winter Games, China excelled in the mixed relay.

The gold medal was secured by the duo of Cidanyuzhen and Buluer, while Yu Jingxuan and Bi Yuxin contributed to a silver medal finish, and Liu Jianbin along with Suolangquzhen earned bronze.

Overall, the host nation’s performance resulted in a medal haul of three gold, three silver, and three bronze medals in this discipline.

Ski mountaineering is not only a fresh addition to the Asian Winter Games, but it is also set to debut at the upcoming Winter Olympics, indicating a promising future for the sport.
