China Ramps Up Border Management Efforts, Probes Over 35,000 Cases

National Immigration Administration reports significant strides in tackling border crimes and enhancing national security.
In an expansive crackdown on border management crimes, China's National Immigration Administration (NIA) has announced that over 35,000 cases were handled throughout 2024. This effort led to the apprehension of more than 79,000 criminal suspects and the dismantling of 906 criminal gangs, according to a statement released by the NIA, as reported by CCTV News.

Among the thousands of cases, 328 were classified as major and significant, receiving special supervision.

Notably, 518 key fugitives were successfully apprehended during operations targeting serious border management crimes.

The NIA has emphasized rigorous measures to combat illegal activities within border areas, specifically targeting firearms, explosives, drug trafficking, and smuggling.

The operations uncovered 494 drug cases involving 653 individuals, with 105 cases involving significant quantities of drugs, totaling 7.8 tons.

Additionally, authorities confiscated over 2,000 firearms and more than 100,000 rounds of ammunition.

To fortify border security and national stability, the NIA has moved to implement specialized measures to reinforce sovereignty, security, and development interests.

In collaboration with immigration management departments, the NIA has been able to initiate a special operation aimed at sternly cracking down on crimes associated with border management, creating a substantial deterrent against notable cross-border offenses.

The tactical endeavors, which spanned from June to October 2024, involved deploying 104,000 police and auxiliary officers, complemented by 85,000 community and social volunteers, aimed at conducting a comprehensive summer security crackdown and rectification operation.

These efforts have led to the apprehension of numerous individuals involved in ongoing criminal activities and neutralizing various dangerous security threats.

Further efforts by the NIA have been directed at tackling illegal employment, entry, and residency of foreigners in China.

Public security's exit and entry management bureaus have been mobilized across the nation to maintain stringent oversight over these issues.

These bureaus are particularly attentive to cases involving illegal entry, employment, and marriage fraud involving foreigners, also focusing on crimes such as trafficking and misrepresentative marriages involving foreign women.

Through these extensive initiatives, China aims to not only safeguard its borders but also restore public confidence and maintain order across its vast and diverse regions.
