China and Grenada Strengthen Ties with Expanded Cooperation Initiatives

Premier Li Qiang and Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell reinforce bilateral relations through strategic alignment and cooperation in emerging sectors.
In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks with Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell in Beijing on January 13, 2025, underscoring China's commitment to fortifying its partnership with Grenada.

The dialogue highlighted a concerted effort to align development strategies and enhance cooperation across various sectors, including new energy, the digital economy, and the blue economy, contributing to mutually beneficial outcomes for both nations.

Premier Li emphasized the strong foundation of China-Grenada relations, which have thrived over the two decades following the resumption of diplomatic ties.

With a focus on mutual respect and equality, the two countries have maintained robust high-level exchanges and expanded pragmatic cooperation, yielding tangible benefits for their populations.

Li expressed China's readiness to collaborate with Grenada in bolstering political mutual trust and providing substantial support on issues pertinent to each nation's core interests and major concerns.

This cooperative spirit aims to elevate bilateral relations to unprecedented levels.

In an effort to deepen the existing cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, China aims to expand its partnership with Grenada beyond traditional sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and healthcare.

Emphasis will be placed on emerging fields, particularly new energy, digital innovations, and the blue economy, reflecting a modern, forward-thinking approach to development.

Furthermore, China encourages its enterprises to invest and establish businesses in Grenada, enhancing economic ties and development opportunities.

Climate adaptation also emerged as a focal point of the discussions, with China committing to assist Grenada and other Caribbean nations in implementing the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement effectively.

Such cooperation underscores a shared interest in safeguarding the Global South's interests and promoting a shared global future.

Prime Minister Mitchell lauded China's exemplary efforts in poverty alleviation, a beacon for developing nations, and expressed gratitude for China's enduring support in Grenada's economic and social advancement.

He affirmed Grenada's adherence to the one-China principle and voiced support for China's prominent global initiatives, highlighting a mutual intent to strengthen multilateral coordination.

The talks culminated in the signing of several bilateral agreements, paving the way for enriched cooperation in various domains such as economy, trade, green development, culture, media, and climate change.

These agreements symbolize the deepening of China-Grenada relations, with potential benefits extending beyond national borders.
