China Advances in Intelligent Robotics Across Multiple Industries

Chinese industrial robots progress into versatile applications, enhancing manufacturing, logistics, and medical sectors.
Chinese industrial robots are undergoing significant advancement, evolving from conventional mechanical arms into versatile machines equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

These developments are allowing for increased application across diverse industries, including manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare.

In Jingzhou, central China's Hubei province, humanoid robots produced by Midea Group facilitate operations in washing machine production, undertaking tasks such as inspection, equipment operation, and maintenance.

At the prestigious Hannover Messe, Shanghai-based JAKA Robotics showcased collaborative robots demonstrating precision capabilities, exemplifying the technological innovations driving this sector.

Technological innovations, scenario-based applications, and enhanced AI systems are driving the transition of industrial robots in China.

These machines are not only capable of coordination and decision-making but are also transitioning towards full-process autonomy and cross-industry adaptability.

Midea's Lyceem Lab in Zhejiang province serves as a crucial facility for testing high-end heavy-duty robots, indicating a strong commitment to research and development.

Midea's acquisition of German robotics manufacturer KUKA in 2017 has enabled substantial investments in core technologies, leading to significant breakthroughs in the heavy-duty robot domain.

According to industry leaders, robots are becoming essential in high-end manufacturing, aerospace, energy, and healthcare, where their precision and reliability are increasingly vital.

Companies such as Estun Automation have introduced a 700-kilogram payload industrial robot, specifically designed for use in heavy machinery and automotive sectors.

Notably, EFORT Intelligent Robot Co., Ltd. has reported strong sales of its latest heavy-duty robot model, with over 100 units sold in 2024. In logistics, Geekplus has deployed 700 autonomous mobile robots in a large warehouse, revolutionizing traditional logistics operations and enhancing efficiency.

The application of industrial robots is not confined to established sectors; new industries, including renewable energy, ceramics, and furniture manufacturing, are embracing robotic technology.

In 2024, China has produced approximately 556,400 industrial robots, marking a 14.2 percent increase from the previous year.

The International Federation of Robotics reports that China accounted for 51 percent of global industrial robot installations in 2023.

Further integration of AI technologies is pushing the boundaries of industrial robotics.

Modern robots possess capabilities for environmental perception, real-time learning, and autonomous decision-making, enhancing their adaptability in manufacturing settings.

China's drone technology is also seeing rapid integration into medical emergency systems.

Tianjin Municipality has initiated its first medical drone route, enabling expedited blood supply deliveries during emergencies.

This innovative approach allows for real-time monitoring of delivery conditions, significantly increasing the efficiency of medical logistics.

Meanwhile, Sichuan Province's Zigong city has implemented multiple low-altitude routes for medical transport, completing over 5,270 flights since inception.

In another development, researchers from the Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences have successfully constructed a 300-kilometer quantum secure direct communication network, enabling practical applications in secure communications, vital for sectors such as government and finance.

This advancement highlights China's strong focus on quantum technologies and the potential for their future applications in enhancing communication security.

In the context of education and cultural innovation, the 2025 World Robotics Carnival held in Wuhan City features a broad spectrum of robotic applications, showcasing the interaction between technology and popular culture.

Such events encourage technological exchanges among participating companies and promote collaboration across the sector.

In a recent environmental advancement, researchers have developed a biodegradable silicone-hydrogel coating effective against marine biofouling, promising eco-friendly solutions for both marine engineering and medical devices.

These developments demonstrate China's commitment to advancing intelligent robotics and applying them in various domains to enhance efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.
