Budweiser Launches 'Renewal Bottle' to Celebrate Chinese New Year

The limited-edition bottle campaign fosters local economies and cultural traditions during the festive season.
As the Chinese New Year approaches, Budweiser has introduced a limited-edition 'Renewal Bottle' that aims to enhance the festivities and revitalize local economies throughout the country.

The innovative design of the bottle transforms the experience of opening a beverage into a symbolic 'renewal ritual'.

Each bottle features an exterior that, when peeled away, reveals one of six auspicious messages: 'Prosperity', 'Abundance', 'Positivity', 'Wealth', 'Love', and 'Happiness'.

These messages can be combined by consumers to create personalized greetings such as 'Great Fortune' or 'Boundless Love', aligning with the tradition of welcoming a new year while shedding the past.

The campaign associated with the 'Renewal Bottle' has succeeded in merging cultural significance with modern celebration.

Budweiser organized 27 countdown parties in six major cities, attracting over six million attendees.

Furthermore, 73 celebration events spanned 41 cities, featuring themes such as renewal-bottle-themed lanterns in Fuzhou and an energetic EDM lion dance parade in Wenzhou, boosting foot traffic to local night economies.

In addition to the in-person festivities, the campaign extended its reach to iconic landmarks in Guangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, and Hangzhou, where the 'Renewal Bottle' was showcased with vibrant visual displays.

Budweiser also collaborated with Bilibili’s New Year's Eve Gala, including international artists to engage younger audiences, and placed themed advertisements in 8 transportation hubs and 85 high-traffic locations, targeting millions of travelers during the Spring Festival.

On social media, the initiative spurred the Shed for Renewal AIGC Challenge on Douyin, inspired by the bottle's shedding-skin motif, resulting in over 1.6 million engagements.

Families gathered during the holiday season exchanged conversations catalyzed by the unique bottles, enhancing traditional practices and contributing to holiday joy.

Budweiser's campaign has been recognized not only for its marketing success but also for its positive impact on society.

The initiative aligns with national objectives to stimulate consumption and expand domestic demand, as reiterated in the most recent Central Economic Work Conference.

Metrics indicate that Budweiser captured 56% of social engagement among major beer brands and prompted over 1.9 million user-generated posts during the campaign period.

Having been established in China for three decades, Budweiser has demonstrated an extensive understanding of the nation’s cultural landscape and consumer preferences.

The 'Renewal Bottle' campaign enhances this legacy by juxtaposing innovation with a respect for tradition, reinforcing the company's dedication to fostering connections with Chinese consumers while supporting broader social goals, such as economic vitality and cultural preservation.
