Barcelona Triumphs Over Real Madrid to Claim Record 15th Spanish Super Cup

A stunning first-half performance leads Barcelona to a 5-2 victory against Real Madrid, ending their trophy drought.
In a remarkable display of football prowess, Barcelona overcame an early setback to defeat arch-rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday.

The team, coached by Hansi Flick, secured their 15th trophy in this competition, extending their record and marking their first silverware in over a year.

Real Madrid initially seemed to be on the path to victory with a fifth-minute goal by French forward Kylian Mbappe, who showcased his skill with a solo effort that ended in a precise shot inside the far post.

However, Barcelona quickly turned the tides with a remarkable performance that saw them score four goals before halftime.

Lamine Yamal equalized in the 22nd minute, followed by a penalty converted by Robert Lewandowski after Eduardo Camavinga's foul on Gavi.

Raphinha added a stunning header from a cross by Jules Kounde, and Alejandro Balde completed the first-half dominance with a goal deep into stoppage time.

Despite reducing the deficit with a goal by Rodrygo after Barcelona's goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off, Real Madrid failed to mount a serious comeback.

Raphinha further extended Barcelona's lead in the second half, capitalising on Real's defensive lapses.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti lamented his team's performance, particularly in the first half, stating, 'In the first half we didn't play football, we hit long balls and that wasn't the idea.' The victory prevents Real Madrid from adding a third trophy to their successful season, having already claimed the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.

Barcelona and Real Madrid's meetings in the Spanish Super Cup final have become a regular affair, with the two clubs facing off for the third consecutive time.

While Real emerged victorious last year, Barcelona ended their barren run by claiming the trophy once more.

Despite this win, Barcelona faces challenges ahead with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny suspended and defender Inigo Martinez dealing with an injury.

The victory, however, provides a morale boost and a solid foundation for coach Hansi Flick as Barcelona looks to build on this success in the forthcoming games.
