Shenzhen International Auto Show Attracts Record Crowds Amid Holiday Excitement

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show in Shenzhen showcases a blend of traditional and new automotive innovations, drawing significant visitor engagement during the Dragon Boat Festival.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show in Shenzhen commenced on May 31, coinciding with the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday.

This year's event has garnered attention not only for its impressive array of vehicles but also for its focus on consumer interaction, distinguishing it from other auto shows like the Shanghai exhibition.

According to the event organizers, approximately 450,000 visitors attended the auto show within the first three days, marking a 27.84% increase compared to 2024. The anticipated transactions are expected to reach around 4 billion yuan, approximately $556 million, reflecting an 8.1% year-on-year increase, with over 16,000 cars reserved for purchase at the venue.

The show features 112 auto brands on display, showcasing 1,039 different vehicle models.

Prominent established manufacturers are seen alongside emerging players such as Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, Xiaomi, and electric vehicle startups like Nio and XPeng.

At the BYD pavilion, a range of vehicles including models from BYD, Fangchengbao, Denza, and Yangwang were featured.

The pavilion included an intelligent zone where visitors could experience innovations in megawatt charging and advanced driving-assist technologies.

One key highlight, the Yangwang U8, demonstrated its unique emergency feature that allows the vehicle to float in water, attracting considerable interest.

Huawei's display featured models from its HIMA alliance, including Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, and Maextro, co-developed with notable automotive companies such as Seres and Chery.

The Maextro S800 sedan, launched just prior to the show at a price point between 718,000 to 1.02 million yuan, emerged as the standout attraction of the Huawei pavilion, with presentations from Yu Chengdong, head of Huawei's smart car solutions, and Xiang Xingchu, chairman of JAC.

FAW-Audi utilized the event to initiate presales for the Q6L e-tron series, marking a significant collaboration as the first luxury global brand partnering with Huawei.

This model integrates the customized Huawei Qiankun driving-assist technology, enabling advanced features such as map-free Level 2 driving assistance.

Celebrity appearance was noted at FAW-Audi's booth, where Hong Kong actor Andy Lau addressed the audience, emphasizing a commitment to long-term customer engagement in the automotive sector.

Nio showcased an extensive lineup with nine models across its three brands: Nio, Onvo, and Firefly.

Sales personnel noted high customer engagement with many attendees placing orders directly at the booth, indicating a positive impact on sales targets.

Xiaomi's presence, although marked by the absence of CEO Lei Jun, still generated excitement with long queues forming for its SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV.

The auto show also hosted a special exhibition area dedicated to future mobility, featuring electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing aircraft from XPeng and other flying vehicle providers, highlighting the futuristic vision within the automotive landscape.
