Global Business Leaders Explore Opportunities in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

A recent delegation to the GBA highlights its economic potential and technological innovations.
A delegation comprising members of the consular corps and business communities in Hong Kong has recently concluded a four-day visit to key cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), underscoring the region's prospective economic and strategic importance.

Participants in the tour described the experience as essential for anyone operating in Hong Kong, while emphasizing the GBA's underreported potential as a hub for innovation and business opportunities.

Representatives from various countries described the GBA as a 'blue ocean' for economic activities and called for increased global promotion to unlock its capabilities.

Their journey included visits to cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai, where they noted the striking blend of advanced technology and vibrant urban life.

The technological landscape of the GBA was notably highlighted, including Tencent's 'Digital Library Cave' in Shenzhen's Nanshan Science Park, which integrates cutting-edge technologies to create immersive cultural experiences that preserve historical heritage.

The implications of such innovations were affirmed by Nasar S A SH Alghanim, consul general of Kuwait, who remarked on their transformative effect on education and tourism.

The GBA's diversity extends to industries such as agricultural technology and biopharmaceuticals, with George Leung, CEO of SCOR Reinsurance Company (Asia), noting a shift in focus from infrastructure to these emerging sectors following the visit.

The presentation of XPeng AeroHT's flying cars was another focal point of the tour.

Johannes Hack, vice chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, commended the region's paradigm of rapid innovation and industry advancement in low-altitude vehicles.

Delegates also explored cooperation zones in Hengqin, Qianhai, Nansha, and Hetao, concentrating on frontiers in artificial intelligence (AI), smart driving technology, and robotics.

Interactions among delegates indicated a strong interest in collaborative investments and partnerships, positioning Hong Kong as a critical gateway for international engagement with the GBA.

Participants included Brian Davidson, the British consul general to Hong Kong and Macao, who described the GBA as a region characterized by dramatic growth and innovation.

The Philippine consul general highlighted the GBA's capacity to produce effective solutions in various sectors, indicating a readiness for enhanced investment interactions between the GBA and the ASEAN region.

The GBA's strategic planning and implementation were further endorsed by Alfred Cheng Man On, head of corporate banking at Bank Negara Indonesia's Hong Kong branch, who observed the collaborative potential between Hong Kong and GBA enterprises to extend growth opportunities across broader markets.

Throughout the journey, delegates admired the coastal beauty and eco-conscious urban planning in Zhuhai, with comparisons made to other global cities renowned for livability.

Inaki Amate, chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, emphasized the importance of collaborative marketing of the GBA as a unified global brand, while encouraging synergies between Hong Kong's financial expertise and the GBA's innovative industries.

The visit clearly demonstrated the GBA's position not only as a technological leader but also as an appealing destination for global business investment.
