Chinese Rescue Teams Mobilized in Response to Devastating Earthquake in Myanmar

Efforts underway as death toll rises amid advanced rescue operations and humanitarian aid deployments.
Chinese rescue teams equipped with specialized tools have been actively engaged in search and rescue operations in central Myanmar following a magnitude-7.9 earthquake that occurred on a recent Friday, causing extensive damage and loss of life.

As reported by Myanmar's State Administration Council, the death toll stands at 3,003, with 4,515 individuals injured and 351 still unaccounted for as of Wednesday.

In Mandalay City, a team from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has utilized drones to survey the devastated areas, specifically the collapsed Sky Villa apartment complex.

Rescue operations at this site, conducted with advanced life detection technology, have successfully led to the extraction of individuals trapped in the debris.

Jiu Yu-gok, the commander of the HK rescue team, stated that their 51-member contingent brought a variety of rescue equipment, including concrete breakers and infrared detectors, aimed at maximizing survival chances for those buried.

Working alongside them, the China International Search and Rescue Team (CISAR) has employed snake-eye life detectors that facilitate both visual confirmation and audio detection of survivors.

Bi Hongyi, squad leader of CISAR, recounted the complexities of the rescue operation, describing how their technology provided real-time video feedback to assess the condition and whereabouts of the individuals they were trying to reach.

As of Wednesday, rescue personnel from China have successfully saved nine individuals trapped under the rubble.

Efforts have included the use of a multi-functional earthquake response vehicle equipped for comprehensive rescue operations.

Han Zhenze, captain of CISAR, highlighted how this vehicle enhances operational efficiency by allowing access to disaster areas without the need for heavy gear transport.

In total, China has dispatched the largest contingent of rescue personnel from any single country to Myanmar, with over 500 rescuers actively working within the affected regions.

Relief operations have included medical teams arriving from Yunnan Province, which has provided consultation and assistance to quake-affected individuals.

The Chinese government has mobilized substantial humanitarian aid, including tents, blankets, and emergency supplies.

The first shipment arrived in Myanmar shortly after the earthquake, with subsequent deliveries scheduled to assist those in temporary shelters.

The China Foundation for Rural Development has also established a temporary settlement community in Mandalay, demonstrating collaborative efforts between Chinese organizations and local authorities.

Despite facing challenging conditions such as aftershocks and damaged infrastructure, coordination between Chinese rescue teams, local responders, and volunteers continues to play a crucial role in the ongoing recovery efforts.

The teams remain focused on locating survivors and providing necessary support to the displaced population.

As the situation develops, emphasis remains on continuing humanitarian assistance aimed at facilitating recovery and rebuilding efforts in the region.
