Chinese Animated Blockbuster 'Ne Zha 2' Screens in Phnom Penh

'Ne Zha 2', the highest-grossing animated film of all time, attracts large audiences during its premiere in Cambodia.
PHNOM PENH, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese animated film 'Ne Zha 2', celebrated as the highest-grossing animated film of all time, screened in Phnom Penh on the evening of March 25, 2025, drawing hundreds of moviegoers to the Olympia Mall's Legend Cinema.

The film was presented in Mandarin with Chinese and English subtitles, enhancing accessibility for local audiences.

At the cinema, attendees took the opportunity to pose for photos before the film's promotional posters, while some children dressed as characters such as Nezha and Aobing, showcasing the movie's cultural impact.

The narrative follows the well-known character Nezha, a boy god from Chinese mythology, alongside his companion Aobing as they navigate challenges in their quest to restore their forms and determine their destinies, aided by the immortal Taiyi Zhenren.

Viewers expressed their enthusiasm during the screening, responding with applause, laughter, and gasps, revealing a deep engagement with the cinematic experience.

Kang Sovanthyda, a 24-year-old moviegoer, shared her excitement about the film, emphasizing its captivating global appeal and stunning visual effects.

'It has both humorous moments and emotional scenes that resonate deeply,' she commented.

Another viewer, Yun Seavvay, highlighted the film’s fidelity to traditional Chinese mythology and its cultural implications.

'The character designs reflect our traditional culture while also incorporating valuable life lessons,' she remarked, describing the film as 'unique' for the current year.

In a complementary cultural initiative, 45 youngsters from Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou Province showcased traditional ethnic attire at China International Fashion Week on March 22, 2025. This grassroots fashion movement has gained international recognition, demonstrating a commitment to cultural heritage.

Across various regions in China, celebrations and festivals continue to emphasize the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.

Events related to the Sanyuesan Festival in Guangxi on March 31, 2025, include primary school performances that celebrate traditional costumes and folklore, fostering an appreciation for local customs.

Notably, in Xinjiang, the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County has integrated intangible cultural heritage into tourism through performances and activities, coinciding with the Spring Equinox, and showcasing the region's rich cultural landscape while attracting visitors.

The recognition of cultural exchanges and the success of animated films such as 'Ne Zha 2' not only reflect the global reach of Chinese media but also underscore the significance of storytelling in bridging cultures.
