China Dominates Artistic Swimming World Cup Super Final with Three Gold Medals

China secures gold in men's solo free, women's duet free, and team free events, while Spain emerges victorious in mixed duet technical.
China demonstrated exceptional prowess at the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup Super Final held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, on Saturday.

The Chinese teams secured gold medals in the men's solo free, women's duet free, and team free competitions, solidifying their status as a leading force in artistic swimming.

Spain, however, claimed victory in the mixed duet technical, the only event that eluded China's comprehensive sweep.

In the team free event, China performed a captivating routine set to the theme of "Gravitation," achieving a remarkable score of 324.3538 points.

Japan followed with a silver medal, scoring 310.0788 points, while Spain earned bronze with 308.4859 points.

Following China's triumph, coach Zhang Xiaohuan expressed her relief and elation, stating, "This gold lifts a huge weight off our shoulders." She highlighted the team's determination in the face of injury, noting that athlete Chang Hao had shown exceptional fortitude to compete despite the setback.

Zhang acknowledged that while the new routine requires further refinement, the team's performance under pressure was commendable.

Chang Hao described the execution of their routine as reflective of their training, emphasizing the need for precision in their lifts for upcoming events.

"My neck rotation is still slightly [limited], so I'll need treatment tonight.

For tomorrow, our focus is hitting every lift perfectly," she remarked.

In the women's duet free event, twin sisters Lin Yanjun and Lin Yanhan showcased a series of powerful movements that earned them a score of 266.1442 points, securing gold.

Spain's pair, Lilou Lluis Valette and Iris Tio Casas, finished second with 260.9325 points, while the recently formed Japanese duo, Uta Kobayashi and Tomoka Sato, secured third place.

Lin Yanhan reflected on their performance, indicating the area for improvement despite their victory, "We lost to Spain last time, but we performed very well today."

On the individual front, 17-year-old Guo Muye concluded the day with a gold medal in the men's solo free event and a silver medal in the mixed duet technical, partnering with Guo Sitong.

Spain's Dennis Gonzalez and Mireia Hernandez won the mixed duet technical, scoring 219.7700 points—over six points ahead of the Chinese duo.

Gonzalez, who had previously won the men's solo free at the 2023 World Championships, noted the significance of these competitions, stating, "These World Cup competitions are crucial for us – they're making us sharper for the World Championships." He credited Spain's success at the recent European Championships, where they won five gold medals.

Hernandez recognized the potential of the young Chinese duo, remarking, "They are very young and talented.

We will have good competition at the World Championships."

The World Cup Super Final is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, featuring the women's solo free, mixed duet free, and team aerobatics competitions.
