Alibaba Enhances Recruitment Efforts to Boost AI Talent and Employment

The tech giant is offering over 3,000 internships with a focus on artificial intelligence to attract fresh graduates.
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, a major player in the Chinese technology sector, is intensifying its recruitment initiatives aimed at nurturing and attracting talent in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence (AI).

The company has launched its spring recruitment program, making available more than 3,000 internship positions for fresh graduates, with almost half of these roles focused on AI technology.

Certain divisions within Alibaba have reported an even greater emphasis on AI-related job openings.

Specifically, Alibaba Cloud, the company’s cloud computing subsidiary, has noted that over 80% of its internship positions are AI-oriented.

Similarly, Amap, which operates within Alibaba's mapping and local services sector, has indicated that approximately 65% of its positions are AI-focused.

Alibaba's recruitment initiative specifically targets students graduating between November 2025 and October 2026. Internships will be offered across various business units, including research and development, algorithms, technology, security, and planning.

Jiang Fang, Alibaba's chief people officer, emphasized the company's commitment to attracting and cultivating AI talent in light of the vast opportunities presented in the AI sector.

The first phase of the internship program will include departments such as Alibaba Group, Alibaba Cloud, Amap, the AI model research unit Tongyi Lab, food delivery arm Ele.me, and gaming subsidiary Lingxi Games.

This move comes as AI adoption continues to experience heightened demand across various industries.

The subsequent phase of the internship initiative will extend to e-commerce arms including Taobao and Tmall Group, the Alibaba International Digital Commerce Group, and logistics service unit Cainiao, among other divisions.

During the current recruitment period, Alibaba Cloud, in partnership with Tongyi Lab, is advancing its global talent recruitment initiative, known as the AI Clouder Program.

This project aims to attract talented individuals who are committed to exploring and innovating with new technologies, particularly emphasizing the development of large language models (LLMs) and AI infrastructure.

Interns at Alibaba will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research and development of LLMs and participate in initiatives aiming to advance artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Since 2017, Alibaba has been collaborating with Shanghai Jiao Tong University on various levels, focusing on research, course development, and talent cultivation in the field.

Industry experts regard this recruitment drive as a strategic move by Alibaba to strengthen its talent pool and showcase its commitment to developing AI capabilities.

The company has announced plans to invest over 380 billion yuan (approximately $52.8 billion) in cloud computing and AI infrastructure over the next three years, which exceeds its total AI infrastructure spending in the past decade, highlighting its focus on a growth strategy driven by AI technologies.

Wu Yongming, CEO of Alibaba Group and chairman of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group, stated that AI represents a transformative opportunity for multiple industries and emphasized the technology's potential to enhance productivity and foster economic growth.

Jiang Han, a senior analyst at market consultancy Pangoal, pointed out that leading Chinese tech companies are instrumental in creating jobs and fostering technological innovation, particularly in the field of AI, which is expected to lead to improved industrial efficiency and economic expansion.
